20th precinct police were called to the scene of a highrise luxury building on West 72nd street. Several units of the FDNY also responded to the building at 50 West 72nd street. A man had barricaded himself inside his apartment and was threatening to turn the gas on. The unidentified individual reportedly was suicidal and had apparently stopped taking his medication. Emergency Service Police officers also responded to the scene and were able to convince the man to go to the hospital. Residents from the neighborhood say the man had lived in the building for more than two decades.
