UN Protests - Facts Over Rhetoric

Hundreds of anti-regime demonstrators gathered outside the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan to voice powerful opposition against the Iranian government.

Organized in part by the National Council of Resistance of Iran at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza, the rally coincided with the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly.

The streets of Midtown Manhattan transformed into a sea of saffron, green, and white. Their goal? To demand an immediate halt to what they call an unprecedented surge of political executions in Iran, and to call on global leaders to reject the legitimacy of Tehran's delegation.

The energy was absolutely electric, even as intense security locks down most of the area for the world leaders arriving. Thousands of demonstrators lined Second Avenue, chanting in both English and Farsi.

APB News was invited by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, to witness the demonstration, directly timed to coincide with addresses from major world leaders.

The clear message from young people - that it's time for a new government and for Iran to join the western world and for the elders clinging to power to relinquish it to the next generation.

Protesters we spoke to say there are currently more than 100 political prisoners on death row in Iran right now. Their message to the UN is simple: "No to Shah, no to Mullahs, yes to a democratic republic."

APB News was on the scene as demonstrators sat cross-legged across multiple lanes of traffic, holding anti-administration signs and chanting slogans.

Just before 9 a.m., ahead of President Trump's address to world leaders, about 30 activists marched into 2nd Avenue and 43rd Street, blocking rush-hour traffic outside the United Nations.

NYPD units cordoned off the intersection and issued three warnings to disperse. When the protesters refused, officers moved in, flex-cuffed them, and loaded them onto department buses.

The installation remained open to the public all day which offered New Yorkers and visitors alike a place to pause, remember, and honor the lives that were lost.

APB News was on Essex Street in Manhattan, where hundreds of New Yorkers gathered to make their voices heard against what they call a dangerous rise in radical extremism and antisemitism across the five boroughs.

The "Unite Against Terror" rally, organized by the grassroots movement End Jew Hatred, was strategically held right outside the headquarters of the Democratic Socialists of America at Essex Street and Straus Square.

The rally included families of 9/11 victims ahead of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy. Demonstrators aimed their frustration squarely at local political leadership and the DSA, arguing that recent political rhetoric from city officials has done more to normalize hostility toward Jewish residents than to protect them.

A counter demonstration broke out after months of intensifying friction in Israeli politics and the actions of the IDF which caused a faceoff between multiple groups. More multiple large-scale protests demanding the accountability of city leaders are planned before the mid term elections.
