September 23, 2016: New York City: This week, artists, actors, dancers, writers, influencers, teachers, students, journalists, and citizens of conscious are converging in New York City for the annual Global Citizen Festival: The World On Stage.

The Global Citizen Festival: The World On Stage is primed to address the world’s greatest challenges and make major policy commitments towards ending extreme poverty.

On Thursday evening in Greenwich Village at New York University – the Kenyan Boys Choir sang songs of hope and freedom to begin the series of Global Citizen Festival events which will include concerts, lectures, and other activities.

Award winning journalist Amy Goodman expressed the importance of the Global Citizen Festival with regard to the numerous humanitarian issues which need to be addressed now by world leaders.

The Global Citizen Festival also highlights the impact achieved by millions of  citizens campaigning for world leaders to enact policy changes and commit significant resources to issues of girls and women’s equality, education, health, water and sanitation, environment, finance and innovation, and food and hunger.

Global Citizen additionally provides a global platform for world leaders, international organizations, and private companies to announce vital commitments set to improve the lives of millions of people around the world.

The 2016 Global Citizen Festival Concert will be held on Central Park’s Great Lawn in New York City on Saturday, September 24, with scheduled performers Demi Lovato, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer and Metallica as well as special guests Usher, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, Yandel and Yusuf / Cat Stevens. Special appearances and speakers are expected to include Chelsea Handler, Deborra-Lee and Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Salma Hayek Pinault and Seth Meyers.
