THOUSANDS RALLY OUTSIDE CITY HALL TO PROTEST PROPOSED FIREHOUSE CLOSINGS

They were joined by almost all of the members of the City Council who oppose Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s a proposal to close 20 fire companies as a budget-cutting measure. The mayor who was on a trip to Brazil, has defended the proposal claiming response times and fire deaths are at a new low.The city is scheduled to finalize its budget by the end of the month.
